Alex Roe, artistic director of Metropolitan Playhouse, is the guest on this new episode of the nytheatrecast. Alex begins by talking about the upcoming show, Power by Arthur Arent. The play was written in the '30s as part of the Federal Theatre Project's 'Living Newspaper' series.
Martin Denton, as interviewer, brings the subject around to the mission of Metropolitan Playhouse, Alex's history with the theatre, and how their work interacts with their neighborhood, the East Village. Alex talks in detail about the various festivals they produce annually that bring members of the community into the theatre as the company works to spread the word about the neighborhood.
Alex and Martin discuss the upcoming production of The Heiress which will be seen at various locales around the city in conjunction with the Mercantile Library as part of a NEA initiative.
