Episode # 272 - Directors Roundtable: Directors Answer Your Questions

John Clancy at the 2nd Indie Theater Convocation

John Clancy at the 2nd Indie Theater Convocation

On this episode of nytheatrecast, four prominent directors will answer questions sent in by listeners. Martin Denton moderates. The directors are Jim Simpson, artistic director of The Flea Theatre, Cat Parker, freelance director and Producing Director at T. Schreiber Studio, John Clancy, Executive Artistic Director of Clancy Productions, and Barry Edelstein, Director of the Shakespeare Initiative at the Public Theater.

After introductions, the panelists discussed these listener questions: (1) the importance of an MFA in directing; (2) can you really be taught to be a director; (3) how do you assemble your creative team: and (4) bad luck stories about "The Scottish Play." Although specifics might vary among the panelists, much was found to agree upon.

There is a wealth of knowledge being shared in this episode and whether you aspire to be a director or just want to learn more about the field, this is a podcast not to be missed.
